I am beyond excited to announce the release of the fifth edition of the Moon Coastal California Handbook!
With all color photographs, this 651-pager is a real beaut! The book covers the whole California coast from San Diego up to Crescent City with a real emphasis on special, underrated destinations including Point Arena, Trinidad, Jalama Beach, and the Channel Islands.
Pick up a copy today at all fine bookshops or purchase it on the Moon website by clicking the image to the right.
I am proud and pleased to announce that Moon California Road Trip won the gold medal for best travel guidebook from the 2016 Independent Publisher Book Awards! It’s a true pleasure to know that California Road Trip has taken home a coveted IPPY Award! This is the world’s largest international and regional book awards competition, so I am humbled to be recognized by this fine organization.
Just recently we also unveiled Moon Monterey & Carmel! Having lived in Monterey County for almost 20 years, it is a real pleasure to write about this amazing stretch of California coastline. This 296-page guide covers the whole of the Monterey Peninsula along with the vibrant surf town of Santa Cruz, the 90 miles of Big Sur coast, the popular Hearst Castle, and the scenic fishing village of Morro Bay.
Expect coverage of the expected attractions including the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row along with some real inside information about places that even some longtime locals have not experienced. The latter includes directions to one of Monterey Bay’s only beached shipwrecks and information about spending a night with the monks of Big Sur’s New Camaldoli Hermitage.
I am really excited to also have my other travel guidebooks on bookshelves and available on websites including Amazon.com and other fine online retailers:
Moon California Road Trip,
Moon Santa Barbara & The Central Coast,
Moon Spotlight Mendocino & Redwood Country,
Moon Spotlight Cambria & San Simeon.
In addition, I contributed 13 write-ups about the Golden State’s piers and wharves to Piers of the California Coast, a soft cover coffee table book spearheaded by photographer and publisher Ed Grant. That book is available on websites including Amazon.com and other fine online retailers.
This site also includes some links to articles I have done for National Geographic Education, Relix Magazine, Paste Magazine, and the Monterey County Weekly. Take a gander and enjoy!
