To celebrate the release of my new Moon Coastal California Handbook, I will be doing an informative and image heavy presentation about some of my favorite off the beaten path destinations along the California coast. Learn why Point Arena, the Channel Islands, Trinidad, Jalama Beach, and Cayucos are worth detouring to while traveling along the Pacific. I will also highlight the recreational opportunities available at each destination including hiking in the stunning Point Arena-Stornetta Unit of the California Coastal National Monument and kayaking the sea caves of Santa Cruz Island within Channel Islands National Park.

The night will be called “Plan Your Stay-Cation”, and I will be doing a presentation titled “Off the Beaten Path in Monterey & Carmel” to promote the recently released Moon Monterey & Carmel Handbook. I will be joined by author Eric Henze (The Complete Guide to Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park and The Complete Guide to Wilder State Park), who will be speaking about Santa Cruz’s state parks.

Moon Road Trip Panel Discussion at the Bay Area Book Festival

I am beyond excited to be talking about the newly released Moon California Road Trip as part of a panel discussion titled “Roadtripping and Hidden Gems Along U.S. Highways” at the inaugural Bay Area Book Festival. Moderated by Jamie Jensen (Road Trip USA), the event includes Moon writers Jason Ferguson (Moon Florida Road Trip), Allison Williams (Moon Pacific Northwest Road Trip) and I talking about road trips and what we have discovered on the open road. The festival is well worth checking out and includes keynotes, interviews, and panel discussions with over 225 authors including heavyweights Michael Chabon, Judy Blume, Robert Hass, and Daniel Handler.
